"Shake What Changed" - Rhythmic Shaking, Embodiment, and the Body That Has Been Through Something - with Dr. Kelsey Evans-Amalu
This is not a dance class.
It is not a fitness programme.
And it is definitely not about getting your pre-baby body back.
This is a somatic workshop for women whose bodies have changed through postpartum, perimenopause, menopause or simply the accumulation of living, and who are ready to inhabit those bodies fully, on their own terms.
At the centre of this workshop is rhythmic pelvic shaking: an ancient, cross-cultural healing practice rooted in West African and Caribbean dance traditions and supported by contemporary nervous system science.
The hips and pelvis are where women can hold stored grief, disconnection and unfelt desire. Moving them with intention, music and permission becomes somatic medicine.
This is not performance.
This is return.
Together, Dr. Kelsey will guide us into a deeply embodied practice that honours the body as it is today. Not the body you used to have. Not the body you were told to want. The body that has lived, changed, carried, softened, tightened, survived and become.
Expect to explore:
• Why rhythmic shaking is healing and where it comes from
• The grief layer: mourning a body that has changed without getting stuck there
• The joy layer: accessing pleasure, aliveness and play in the body you have now
• A somatic arrival practice to meet the body as it actually is today
• A closing integration ritual to land what was moved and felt
• Three giveaways woven throughout the session
No dance experience is required.
No performance is expected.
Simply bring your body, your breath and a willingness to meet yourself honestly.
