In Japanese the word ‘shibari’ simply means ‘to tie’, but the contemporary meaning of the word describes an artistic form of Japanese rope bondage. Originating from the ancient martial art, Hojojutsu, and the work of turn of the century artist, Seiu Ito, Shibari was popularised in 1950s Japanese erotic magazines. It has now grown to become an aesthetic bondage form practised across the world, also described as Kinbaku.
Traditionally, 8m lengths of natural fibre rope are used to create geometric patterns that contrast beautifully with the human body’s natural curves. The experience is always a collaboration between the rigger and the model - the outcomes of which can explore notions of visual beauty, sexuality, power exchange, relaxation and challenges of the body.

Sophia Rose has worked with rope bondage (shibari), kink, and exploratory physical movement, and exploring these practices since 2013.
Her interest and passion lies in looking at what’s beneath the surface. She's curious about physical practices as tools for creative expression, to explore and move through the complex and fluid relationship between our own bodies, minds, and the bodies and minds of others.
Sophia is passionate about delivering accessible, empowering, de-mystified education on rope, sexuality and BDSM.

‘Figure of A’ is an accessories brand inspired by Japanese rope bondage - Shibari, designed by rope artist and fashion designer, Anna Kii.
After practising rope bondage for several years, Anna had the idea of applying the traditional patterns used for binding the body to the design of clothes and accessories, where rope has both a functional and decorative purpose.
Edgy, architectural, feminine and body-aware, ‘Figure of A’ pieces function equally well as part of your everyday styling as they do as part of a fetish-heavy ensemble. It is Anna’s hope that her product’s wearability and contemporary aesthetic will help lift Shibari from the underground, recontextualising the artform in the public’s imagination as the aesthetic, sensual and consensual practise it truly is.
The product range includes chokers, cuffs, handbags and other wearable body pieces, all handmade from top quality leather and custom made poly/cotton ropes. The Figure of A collection will be available and on display at the event with opportunity for a personal fitting.

Entry
Tickets are £80 - £110, inclusive of performance, open bar, interactive Shibari with Marie and opportunity for play. Tickets are extremely limited to only 30 places in order to ensure an intimate ambience.
